How do conductors deal with issues like the following?

To be honest, every great conductor I ever had didn't care at all about "negatitivty"- they all called it like they saw it. A player talking all the time? Totally unacceptable, they deserve negativity! It helps to have a sense of humor, though. I think my favorite conductor now (though she scared me at the time) was this great musician with a Victorian hairstyle and a biting sense of humor.
