Is Original sin an STD? Are you saying that even newborn baby's are sinners?

I don't know if Original Sin is just a Catholic thing (Recovering Catholic here) or not, but it seems that, at least in Catholicism, everyone is born with Original Sin, that we are sinners from birth. So, is Original Sin an STD? And how could a newborn child be a sinner?
