Very old cartoon/ anime of space ships? do you know it?

so this anime / cartoon is about spaceship wars. The hero has a red / crimson space ship and he has like a fleet of them. The hero also has a scar of his face and went from low rank to high rank. any ideas what it is? Oh one more thing is that they have a secret weapon in their space ship and it opens up, thunder comes out, then a bullet is released.
